Tesla Gigafactory Shanghai

May 24, 2021 – 21 colleagues from the S&T Diplomatic Circle Shanghai, joined the unique visit to the EV car production at Tesla Gigafactory 3, the first foreign-owned auto factory in China and Tesla’s first international gigafactory. The US$2 billion factory was completed at record speed in just 168 working days. The plant officially opened in December 2019 rolling out Model 3 electric cars and Model Y cars in a second phase. The gigafactory is designed to make up to 500,000 cars per year, and currently has the capacity to produce 450,000 units per year. We were able to see an impressive production line with 370 robots from ABB, FANUC America Corporation & KUKA. At the end of the visit, we could do a test drive with various Tesla models.

Huge thanks to our colleague Felix Moesner from Swissnex in China for coordinating this insightful visit.
