Visit to Shanghai Data Exchange (SDE) Center

February 28, 2025 - 17 participating member delegations of S&TDC from Shanghai gathered on the occasion of the visit to Shanghai Data Exchange (SDE) Center, one of China’s key platforms for the trading and governance of data as an economic asset.

The visit offered valuable insights into how China is developing new institutional and regulatory frameworks around data circulation, valuation, and exchange. As data becomes an increasingly strategic resource for innovation, platforms like SDE aim to facilitate secure data sharing while enabling companies to unlock the value of data across sectors.

Discussions also explored how data markets are being structured, the role of trusted intermediaries, and the broader ambition to integrate data more systematically into the digital economy.

The group welcomed the SDE's proposal to actively participate in future Data Exchange conferences scheduled in Shanghai, for which the SDE is among the organizers, as this could allow the S&TDC to gain greater visibility regarding its activities.
